New Texas Giant

The New Texas Giant is a hybrid roller coaster located at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas. Originally opened in 1990 as a wooden coaster named the Texas Giant, it was later transformed into a steel track coaster by Rocky Mountain Construction and reopened in 2011 as the New Texas Giant. This makeover introduced a smooth steel track while retaining the wooden coaster's classic structure, offering a thrilling blend of wooden coaster aesthetics with the smoothness and speed of modern steel tracks.

The ride features a 153-foot-tall lift hill, a steep 79-degree first drop, and reaches speeds up to 65 miles per hour. Its 4,200-foot-long track includes steep banking turns and over-banked curves that deliver an adrenaline-packed experience. The New Texas Giant is known for its airtime hills, providing riders with multiple moments of weightlessness. Its innovative design and exhilarating ride experience have earned it accolades and made it a standout attraction at the park.

The New Texas Giant is exciting for several reasons:

  1. Hybrid Design: It combines the traditional structure of a wooden coaster with a modern steel track. This hybrid design offers the rough-and-tumble character of wooden coasters with the smooth, fast-paced feel of steel coasters, resulting in a thrilling and unique ride.
  2. Steep Drop: The first drop is a staggering 79 degrees, giving riders a moment of pure weightlessness and a rush of adrenaline as they plummet 153 feet down the track.
  3. High Speed: The ride reaches speeds up to 65 miles per hour, providing an exhilarating rush throughout its course.
  4. Airtime Hills: The coaster is packed with airtime hills that give riders multiple moments of weightlessness, one of the key thrills for coaster enthusiasts.
  5. Over-Banked Turns: The New Texas Giant features sharp, over-banked turns that tilt riders far beyond what most coasters offer, enhancing the sense of unpredictability and excitement.
  6. Smoothness: Thanks to its steel track, the ride is exceptionally smooth compared to traditional wooden coasters, allowing for high speeds and quick transitions between elements without the roughness that older coasters might have.
  7. Length: Spanning 4,200 feet of track, the New Texas Giant offers an extended ride experience with a mix of drops, twists, and turns, keeping the excitement going for a longer duration than many other coasters.

The combination of these features makes the New Texas Giant an intense, fast-paced ride that continuously surprises and thrills its riders.
